Welcome back after the summer break. Not much to report yet. Though one reader objected to new rules for vacuum cleaners, saying Brexit was understandable, with new rules “telling us how to control our lives eliminating our carbon footprint”.
On the other hand, Frederik Dahlman says people forget that “energy efficiency measures for our consumer goods and products … are really the flipside to many other energy debates, for example, on the building of new power stations or the sourcing of fossil fuels. Reducing our energy consumption while ensuring that we get as much (if not more) output or utility from our equipment, homes and cars is the most economic and environmentally-friendly way to avoid many other energy issues and debates”.

4. EU cuts Baltic eastern cod quota by 28 pct
The European Commission adopted Tuesday a proposal for fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2018 which would significantly reduce catches of Baltic eastern cod and ban all marine eel fisheries.
