Publisher’s Note

With nearly every EU initiative now geared towards boosting recovery, the Commission has put forward an ‘industrial revolution’ to reverse the declining role of industry in Europe’s economy. The intention is to move from its current level of 15.6% of EU GDP to as much as 20% by 2020.

The new Communication proposes priority actions to improve the business environment, to stimulate investment in new technologies, access to markets and to finance, particularly for SMEs, and ensure that skills meet industry’s needs.

Bringing back industry to Europe is the motto of this latest revolution, and businesses will be hoping that these new measures and aspirations will do their bit in rebuilding a climate of confidence and entrepreneurship in Europe.
