EUbusiness Week 829 top stories: EU signs largest ever free trade deal with Japan; Google fined EUR 4.3 bn for breaching EU antitrust rules; EU shields against steel imports after Trump tariffs; VW yet to guarantee post-dieselgate emissions repairs; Brussels warns Airbnb over pricing policy; Protection of cross-border investments: new guidance

Publisher’s Note

This week’s Communication on the EU’s preparedness for Brexit does not mince words. The repercussions for European businesses and citizens, whichever scenario plays out, are serious: from new controls at the EU’s outer border with the UK, the validity of UK-issued licences, to certificates and authorisations and different rules for data transfers. The EU’s patience, as well as that of the 63 per cent of Britons who did not vote for Brexit, is wearing thin. Embarrassment grows at the ineptitude of the UK government’s performance, as a band of Brextremist politicians, having misled the voters, now dictate her government policy. Responsibility and power must be returned to the public through a second referendum, a People’s Vote.
