2015 is a fitting year for European Year of Development. Not just because a priority of Latvia as EU president is to strengthen Europe as a global actor. This year is the deadline for meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals and for their replacements to be put in place.
It is also an opportunity to explain to EU citizens how their development aid works, how tax money is spent and how it makes a real and lasting difference. And it can show not only how aid contributes to a more peaceful and equitable world, but also how such a world is in our own interest.
