How can you see if a website is safe? How do you know if a website is reliable? Does a quality mark on an online shop say that the shop is safe? Another question is: how do you know if you are going to a phishing site? We give you 5 points that you can check, to see if a website is safe and reliable.

    Check the security lock

Click with your mouse on the lock in the address bar. Then you will see that the certificate has been checked (Verified or Valid is usually there). If the website is not secured, you will see that. It is also possible that you see: not secure. Now you know that it is better not to visit the website. It is not necessarily that the website always wants to do harm, it is also possible that the administrator of the site has done something wrong. But: it could also be a hacker… So it is better not to visit it.

    Check the site link

Take a good look at the link. You can already tell a lot from this. For example, the domain name. This is between the slashes. It should of course be the right one when you search for a Dutch casino online. But you can also get a phishing link, which contains a 0 instead of an o. And if you are too quick, you will not notice that. A fake slash can also be in a link, you will not see that.

    Check the quality mark

If you visit a online shop: check whether the website has a quality mark. If you see the quality mark, don’t immediately think: great, safe. You can put that quality mark on your website. To be sure, go to the website of that quality mark, and check whether the online shop is listed there. In the Netherlands the Thuiswinkel waarborg is a great quality mark for websites, but there are also a few in other countries.

    Check the address

Check the website to see if you can find valid/normal address details. Sometimes you can fill in a form to get in touch, but you don’t see any address details. And then something is wrong… We say it again: be alert and use your common sense. If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t.

Check if the site is fake

A handy website that checks if the website you are about to visit is a real site – is https://www.scamadviser.com/. You can see here if the site is green (okay) or red (not okay). This is a must if you want to check online bookmakers 2024. PS You do not have a 100% guarantee that you are on a safe website. The site itself says ‘This site looks safe to us’.

By following these steps, you can better determine the safety and reliability of a website. You should always follow these steps to make sure that the online shop or website is secure.
