The European Commission is right to address with its geo-blocking plans the hurdles consumers face when they try to take advantage of better offers and deals available from retailers based in other countries.
However, the need for this proposal is a sign of a Single Market still incomplete. An equally strong need is to address the reasons why suppliers choose not to service certain EU markets – such as the differing VAT and national consumer protection regimes, or licensing requirements.
