    3. Europe firm on bluefin tuna quota cut despite row

    Publisher’s Note
    ================
The new “integrated industrial policy for the globalisation
era” proposed by the Commission this week has been generally
    welcomed by European business organisations.

It offers “competitiveness proofing” and “fitness checks” on
all legislative proposals/existing legislation relating to
industrial policy, easier access to credit for SMEs, stronger
European standardisation, a new strategy on raw materials, and
innovation support for sectors such as advanced manufacturing
technologies, biofuels and road and rail transport.

Reinforcing the EU’s strengths in producing high quality goods
is important for economic recovery and for putting Europe on
a path towards resource efficiency and sustainability. The
strategy is a useful roadmap for more specific actions.

    Comment
    ——-
Commenting on our piece “Euro-Parliament strikes at Europe’s
late payment culture”, Ian Savell writes:

“For many small businesses the liquidity issue includes the
time between incurring costs and being able to invoice. Will
the legislation cover such issues, especially where the
supplier requires staged payments against progress rather
    than stage completion and delivery?”
