Today marks the first anniversary of entry into force of the CETA trade deal between the EU and Canada. Provisionally applied, the treaty has eliminated 98 per cent of tariffs between Canada and the EU. From the EU side, early signs are that the deal is starting to deliver for EU businesses. With exports up in many sectors, and EU companies also gaining access to Canadian public procurement contracts, there is reason to celebrate, the EU Trade Commissioner said as she heads off to Canada to take stock of progress. Whether it would be such a good model from the British side post-Brexit is another matter.
