    As Europe’s economy grapples with its debt turmoil, the Commission this week targeted markets with strong growth rates such as China, India and Russia as a means to boost boost competitiveness and growth.

    The ‘Small Business, Big World’ initiative will coordinate efforts to support smaller businesses’ access to these markets, using public-private partnerships with stakeholders such as chambers of commerce.

    The initiative to exploit the potential of SMEs in the global arena will be welcomed at this time. More exports are urgently needed if the eurozone is to have a chance of avoiding recession next year.
