Students studying in Europe face widely differing student fees, says a report from the Eurydice education network. This does not exactly improve access to higher education for young Europeans, though this is a key aim of EU policy-makers. Such access improves their chances of getting a good job, and also, says Education Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, “enhances economies, which are in need of the innovation and creativity that talented graduates bring.”
English students suffer most as they pay the highest tuition fees in Europe. There are signs of change, however. Germany, who only introduced student tuition fees in 2007, has recently moved the other way, and abolished them.
