    As the Single Market reaches its 20th birthday, the European Commission has decided a reincarnation – Single Market II – is needed to give growth a boost in Europe. This will focus on employment, integrated networks, cross border mobility of citizens and businesses and the digital economy.

    Much has already been done to set up a common area between the 27 EU Member States where goods, services, capital and persons can circulate freely. The result is more choice at lower prices, more opportunities to study abroad and more foreign investment in return for access to 500 million consumers. But, as Commissioner Barnier says, “the single market can do more for European citizens and businesses”.
