Marking International Women’s Day, an EU report finds that despite the fact that European women are better educated than men, the gender pay gap remains, women are under-represented on company boards and gender-stereotypical attitudes persist. A welcome EU initiative is empowering women in the digital world. The ICT sector offers highly skilled, well-paid jobs but fails to employ many women. “Europe’s future will be digital,” says Commissioner Mariya Gabriel: “Women and girls cannot be left out of the digital transformation of our economy and our society. Our ‘Women in digital agenda’ will be about enabling, empowering, encouraging and motivating women and girls to close the gender digital divide.”
