The Commission this week set out its draft for the EU’s 2016 budget, with payment credits largely frozen at EUR 143.5 bn, and a focus squarely on supporting the economic recovery and helping to “improve lives in Europe and beyond”.

The Commission says it has responded to the need to use taxpayers’ money wisely. MEPs in general welcomed the draft, noting that comfortable margins – the gap between program allocations and the spending ceiling – could offer a solution to financing of the Juncker investment Plan.
