More persons turning towards dietary supplements to combat health challenges as the world battles with covid-19 pandemic
As the world still battles the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an increasing demand for dietary supplements. These are products such as Creatine that are consumed with the intention of enhancing the intake of essential nutritional components in the human body.
Barely months after the outbreak of the Covid virus, the European dietary supplements market in 2020 increased to a value of USD 14,995.3 million. The increase in the use of dietary supplements has been linked to more European consumers’ concern about their overall health and wellness. The consumers therefore see these products as being important in their health improvement. Additionally, these supplements are being purchased in bulk as preventive measures to disorders.
Poland, in 2020, just after the outbreak of the pandemic, recorded the highest sales in dietary supplements and OTC drugs in just one month. In Italy also, 52% of Italian adults are reported to use supplements either as vitamins or minerals. Again, the older generation have been reported to turn to dietary supplements to prevent or overcome health conditions that accompany the Covid virus. This has led to an increase in the sales of supplements such as vitamin C which has a market share of 237.8%.
With the surge in the demand for dietary supplements, the market has been projected to reach a CAGR of 5.49% during the forecast period of 2021-2026. The European dietary supplement market is also expected to grow more as there are also reports that health professionals across the region recommend these supplements to their patients to combat diverse health challenges.
Weight loss dietary supplements have also been fingered as the products capturing the market. More European consumers are leaning toward the use of these alternative medicines that contain natural ingredients to combat obesity.
