Publisher’s Note
================
Most standards for mainstream products and services fail to
make them accessible for older and disabled consumers, says
ANEC, the European consumer voice in standardisation. The
warning came on World Standards Day, whose theme this year
was “Accessibility for All”.
Europe has 50 million disabled European citizens, while the
proportion of people aged 65 years and over is set to reach 30
per cent in 2060. ANEC is urging standards organisations, the
Commission and industry to take the initiative and provide
standards-makers with the specialist knowledge needed to meet
the requirements of older and disabled people. Innovation is
a key driver in EU economic recovery, and the incorporation of
Design for All principles in the elaboration of standards can
only help in developing innovative products and services.
