President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the international Paris climate agreement yesterday, severing another of America’s ties to the global community, and reflecting the strong influence the fossil fuel industry exerts over him.
The withdrawal of the second biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the world after China will not deter others from action. New French president Macron says Trump has “made a mistake for the future of our planet”. Friends of the Earth is calling on countries to assert heavy pressure on the Trump administration. It says Mr Trump’s action should be “a trigger for increased action on climate in Europe to end fossil fuel dependency by 2030”.
