As EU leaders met for their two-day summit Thursday they would do well to hear the call from Europe’s smaller businesses to ensure the Single Market works for them.
The burden of regulation and national rules falls more heavily on SMEs, who make up the bulk of Europe’s companies. “The EU therefore needs to design regulation to avoid standing in the way of the vibrant entrepreneurial initiative which SMEs can bring to the economy,” says EuroCommerce’s Christian Verschueren. This should be the EU priority now, he says, calling on governments and EU institutions to takes the steps now to make it happen.
